The Royal North Devon at Westward Ho! claims to be the cradle of English Golf. Founded in 1864, it is the oldest golf course in the country and is regarded as the St Andrews of England. The golf course is as tough as any of the UK’s better-known links and is ranked at number 61 in Golf Monthly’s Top 120 Course Rankings and it also features in Golf World’s Top 100 courses in the world that every golfer “must play”.
At Saunton Sands (40 minutes) there is another superb eighteen hole course set among miles of beach and sand dunes in a stunning location.
More casual holiday golf is located twenty minutes away at the Hartland Forest Golf and Leisure Parc (number 6 on map).
Plus Barnstaple has both 9 and 18 hole course and a driving range - twenty minutes away on the town ringroad.
